We’ve just shipped a major update for BMI Calculator - Healthy & Fit. The app is now fully localized in 20 languages on both iOS and Android — meaning the buttons, labels, health categories, and units are all rendered in your device’s language out of the box.
The update is rolling out now on the Apple App Store and Google Play.
The full language list
BMI Calculator now ships with translations for these 20 languages:
The app picks up your device language automatically. If your phone is set to Korean, the app opens in Korean. Switch your device language at any time and BMI Calculator follows along on the next launch — no in-app setting needed.
Why localize a BMI calculator?
BMI is a global health metric, but the apps that calculate it are usually built English-first. That works for fluent English speakers, but it leaves out a lot of people who would otherwise benefit from a quick, free way to check their body mass index.
Health information matters most when it’s readable. Categories like “underweight,” “overweight,” and “obese” are loaded terms — getting them right in the user’s native language is the difference between a tool people understand and a tool they have to translate in their head.
This update covers the major language groups our users have been asking for: South Asia (Hindi, Bangla), East Asia (Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Thai, Indonesian, Malay, Vietnamese), the Middle East (Arabic, Turkish), Europe (Dutch, French, German, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish), and English as the default.
Right-to-left support: Arabic readers get a fully RTL layout — the result panel, history, and category labels are mirrored correctly. The same applies to other RTL scripts where appropriate.
What’s in the app, briefly
If you haven’t used BMI Calculator before, here’s what it does:
- Instant BMI calculation — enter weight and height, get your BMI in seconds.
- Health category — the result is classified per WHO guidelines (underweight, normal, overweight, or obese).
- Metric and imperial units — switch between kg/cm and lb/ft as you prefer.
- Free, ad-light, no account — nothing to sign up for; nothing to subscribe to.
