About Water Reminder: Drink Water

Water Reminder calculates a daily water goal from your body weight, how active your day is and whether you live somewhere hot, and you can override it by hand at any time. Set when you wake and when you go to bed, and reminders are spread evenly between the two and stop before bedtime, so nothing wakes you up; they survive a phone restart. A ring fills as you drink and changes colour through the day, and today's log stays editable so a mis-tap does not become a permanent wrong entry. Seven and thirty day charts show your daily average and how many days in a row you have hit your goal. Everything runs on the device: no account, no sign-in, no server, and the log never leaves your phone. Twenty languages, millilitres or fluid ounces, 12-hour or 24-hour clock. Water Reminder is not a medical device and does not replace professional advice.

Why the app asks for your weight

Most hydration apps open with eight glasses a day. That figure has no identified evidence behind it. The clearest trail leads to a 1945 recommendation from the US Food and Nutrition Board of roughly 2.5 litres a day, whose very next sentence noted that most of that quantity is already present in prepared food. The first sentence travelled; the second did not.

The official figures that do exist disagree with each other by a wide margin. EFSA puts adequate intake at 2.0 litres a day for women and 2.5 for men; the US National Academies say 2.7 and 3.7. Both are totals that include water from food, typically about a fifth of the intake. A fixed glass count applied to everyone was never going to represent a 55 kg desk worker and a 95 kg labourer in the tropics equally, so the app derives a starting figure from weight, activity and climate, and lets you change it.

Reminders that stop at bedtime

A notification at three in the morning does more harm than no notification, because it teaches you to swipe the app away without reading it. You set a wake time and a bed time, and prompts are distributed evenly between the two and stop before you sleep.

They also survive a restart. That sounds too obvious to mention, and it is the single most common place reminder apps fail quietly — the schedule is lost on reboot and the user assumes they simply stopped drinking enough to trigger it.

A log with nowhere to go

There is no account, no sign-in and no server. What you drink is written to the phone and stays there, which is why the app works on a plane or in a basement gym as well as it does anywhere else.

The ring on the main screen fills as you drink and shifts colour through the day, and today's entries stay editable so one mis-tap does not become a permanent wrong reading. Beyond today you get seven and thirty day charts, a daily average, and a count of consecutive days on target. Ads come from Google AdMob and a one-time purchase removes them; the hydration log itself is not collected, because there is nowhere to collect it to.

Water Reminder is not a medical device. Several conditions change how much you should drink, in both directions, and an app that knows your body weight and nothing else is not the right place to settle that.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does Water Reminder decide how much I should drink?

It calculates from your body weight, how active your day is and whether you live somewhere hot, because those are the factors that actually move the number. You can set the target by hand at any time. It is a starting point, not a prescription — the app is not a medical device.

Does it need an account or an internet connection?

Neither. There is no sign-in, no server and no sync. The log is stored on your phone and never leaves it, so the app works on a plane, in a basement gym, or anywhere with no signal.

Will it wake me up at night?

No. You set when you wake and when you go to bed, and reminders are spread evenly between those two points and stop before bedtime. They also survive a phone restart, which is a common place for reminder apps to fail quietly.
